Frequently Asked Questions About Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a natural way to holistically treat your body through natural plant extracts and oils. Aromatherapy is also often known as “essential oil therapy” due to their heavy use in aromatherapy.

Blends of essential oils have possible health benefits that include the stimulation of the olfactory system and limbic system, which aid in smell, taste, and emotional systems within the brain. Aromatherapy is also known to reduce stress levels and improve sleep. Lavender is a particularly well known and useful essential oil to aid in sleep and calming. Some blends have also been known to help decongest the body during a cold or flu. Our Defense blend includes these ingredients.

There is limited research on aromatherapy as it is a newer field, but it has been known to help with common issues such as anxiety, depression, and muscle relaxation. Different oils and aromatherapy treatments will affect people differently, so always start with a small drop of oil in your diffuser to make sure you’re not overwhelmed.

The most common way to practice aromatherapy is through inhaling essential oils by dispersing them throughout the air with a diffuser. You can do this in either the Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffuser which is portable and uses water, or the Nebulizing Diffuser which does not require water.

Some essential oils can cause reactions if placed onto the skin when undiluted. There are also contraindications for use should you have any respiratory issues such as asthma. If this is the case, we strongly advise consulting your doctor before purchasing essential oils or essential oil diffusers. Please note that oils are for use in the devices or externally ONLY, and if used externally, please dilute with a carrier oil or consult with an aromatherapy specialist.

Essential oils are safe to inhale, but practice intermittent exposure to the mist created, and do not inhale directly. Instead wave the scent towards you, or sit close by and enjoy.

Aromatherapy helps relieve stress by creating a sense of calm, and by activating the limbic system, which deals with emotion and memory. This is an act of self care, and self care in itself helps relieve stress.

Essential oils can be administered in many ways. We prefer to use a diffuser, and drop a few of our favorite oils into that for a light and calming fragrance. These can also be mixed with carrier oils, such as jojoba oil, for use on the body. We strongly advise taking great care and consulting an aromatherapy specialist if planning to use these oils topically.
